NE Lions Join Effort to Plant a Million Trees
The President of Lions Clubs International has challenged clubs around the world to plant one million trees in the next year:
An important part of our extension of service this year is caring for our environment. Our goal this year is to plant a million trees around the world. That’s less than one tree for each member. If we can accomplish this goal, it proves once again that we can accomplish anything
…
Any of us can plant a tree. It’s a very visible and hands-on way for each and every Lion to make a difference. It’s also a great project to invite your community at-large to join your local Lions club in a collaborative effort.
The Northeast Lions are making our first step to meeting the challenge by giving away a batch of 2-foot spruce trees. The University of Minnesota offers a guide to choosing landscape evergreens, showing that spruce trees like full sun and acidic soil.
If you would like a free spruce tree, email our club’s “Woodsman”, Chad Carr, at cccarr007@yahoo.com.
