NE Lions Join Effort to Plant a Million Trees

The President of Lions Clubs International has challenged clubs around the world to plant one million trees in the next year:

An important part of our extension of service this year is caring for our environment. Our goal this year is to plant a million trees around the world. That’s less than one tree for each member. If we can accomplish this goal, it proves once again that we can accomplish anything

Any of us can plant a tree. It’s a very visible and hands-on way for each and every Lion to make a difference. It’s also a great project to invite your community at-large to join your local Lions club in a collaborative effort.

The Northeast Lions are making our first step to meeting the challenge by giving away a batch of 2-foot spruce trees. The University of Minnesota offers a guide to choosing landscape evergreens, showing that spruce trees like full sun and acidic soil.

Every Xth Thursday, Northeast Lions deal blackjack to the residents at Catholic Eldercare on Main Street.

Camp Bovey

The Northeast Lions volunteer with the restoration and upkeep at Camp Bovey:

Camp Bovey is a summer resident camp for boys and girls ages 8-14.Our mission is to provide a safe place for youth to have fun while participating in outdoor activities that help build respect for themselves, one another, and the environment.

The activities at Camp are traditional in nature.Swimming lessons, open swim, crafts, Outdoor Living Skills, camping and canoeing trips, hikes, picnics and ball games are included in our program.On the first night of camp and again on the last, all in Camp gather at the campfire ring for songs, stories, skits and to share experiences of camp with one another.

Meals on Wheels

Northeast Dinner Bell / Meals on Wheels was started in July of 1973, is a nonprofit, mostly community supported volunteer organization which provides support to homebound, elderly or disabled residents of Northeast Minneapolis and St. Anthony Village. Northeast Minneapolis Lions are dedicated volunteers.
